““A WALK IN NATURE IS AN IMMERSIVE, BOTANICAL SCULPTURE AIMED AT BRINGING VIEWERS INTO DIRECT CONTACT WITH NATURE, REMINDING THEM OF THE DYNAMIC SITE LAKEVIEW VILLAGE IS BUILT UPON. AS ONE WALKS ALONG THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE PROJECT, I HOPE THEY FEEL A SENSE OF RELAXATION AND INSPIRATION AS THEY DISCOVER THE SUBTLE NUANCES AND CHANGES THAT EXIST WITHIN THE WORK. THE SCULPTURE IS AN INTERPRETATION OF THE EVOLVING LIFE OF A FOREST WHERE VIEWERS CAN BE WITNESSES TO THE INCREDIBLE, EVER PRESENT SUBTLETIES THAT CREATE THE RICH, COMPLEX ECOSYSTEMS WE LIVE AMONG. “

The idea of environmental succession is the central focus of this installation as it relates to the idea of change and evolution within an existing ecosystem. In nature, when a tree falls and sunlight hits the forest floor, new life begins to grow out of the decomposition, slowly changing over time. The evolution of the Lakeview Village site, from industrial lands to what will be a thriving, sustainable lakefront community thematically relates to the idea of succession and growth. As visitors walk underneath the installation, they will feel as though they are witnessing a changing natural environment. The time it takes them to walk along the entirety of the art piece will also be symbolic of the importance of time in both natural succession, and in the time it takes to physically and socially build a new community. The more time that passes, the more diverse, strong and interesting it becomes. As well, the complex ecosystems and native flora and mosses present in the many trail networks and conservation lands in Mississauga are represented in the piece through the plant palette selection, bringing the experience of being immersed in nature inside the Discovery Center.
Custom Moss walls for both private residential and corporate clients are available upon request. We love collaborating with designers, or starting from scratch to develop a custom designed moss wall that will bring any space to life.
